Nordic EdTech COMMUNITY
In the short time I have spent on the Nordic EdTech Network project one of the discoveries that I am most happy about is what I have learned about existing and emerging Nordic EdTech communities that I had no idea existed until quite recently. Last Summer I learned about the Oslo EdTech Cluster [www.osloedtech.no], and I am very happy to see an increasingly vibrant community in Oslo, and hope it spreads to other parts of Norway. Late last year, I found out that Blair Stevenson and his colleagues have a rapidly expanding pre-incubator program at the Oulu University of Applied Sciences called Oamk LABs (http://www.oamklabs.fi/)—and later this week I will meet with Antti Korhonen (as he is now visiting Silicon Valley) to learn what he and his colleagues are doing to built up xEDU (http://xedu.co/), an accelerator for education business startups based in Helsinki. And I am learning more about what is cooking in Swedish EdTech, including what Jannie Jeppesen and her team are doing with EdTech Sweden [http://www.edtechsweden.se/] and conferences around education, learning and tech they are organizing in Sweden (and in Norway—my home town, Lillestrom—in the Fall). Finally, I am looking forward to learning more about what Professor Rikke Ørngreen and her colleagues at The Research Lab: IT & learningDesign at Aalborg University are doing, and how Danish and other Nordic EdTech startups can benefit from their work. The purpose of this Thematic discussion is to share insights about what is happening in different segments of our Nordic EdTech community, including what Nordic Venture firms and angel/seed investors are most actively supporting Nordic EdTech.
